Dear cycling lover,
The world is going through difficult times because of the COVID-19 virus. The same goes for Flanders. At the moment, all non-essential travels to and from Belgium are forbidden. You can find the latest updates here.
For the time being, all cultural and sporting events will be cancelled until further notice. Furthermore, mass gatherings such as festivals and other events that may attract crowds, will be cancelled until 31 August.
But … we are delighted to share with you the new Flanders Classics' race calendar for this autumn. Gent-Wevelgem – In Flanders Fields, Dwars door Vlaanderen and the Ronde van Vlaanderen will be ridden in the week of 11 until 18 October! So please, save this dates (and keep in mind that they remain subject to the Covid-19 measures, determined by Belgium's Federal Government). Fingers crossed!
Furthermore: All non-essential shops are closed, shops that sell food and provisions remain open. Everyone will get maximum half an hour for shopping, and is required to respect an appropriate distance with others.
However, the Belgian government anticipate the re-opening of all shops from 11 May, with the subsequent opening of museums to follow from 18 May. The reopening of restaurants and cafes is planned for 8 June.
Meanwhile, the public and visitors should remain at home as much as possible and continue to avoid non-essential trips. Outdoor sporting activities are still allowed, but subject to a maximum of two persons, at any one time. Social gatherings are still forbidden, and social distancing continues in force.
If you are in Flanders now, or planning a trip soon, please contact your government's advice or tour operator for the most up-to-date information, relevant to your stay. Current information can also be found via our VISITFLANDERS social media channels.
We hope to welcome you soon, with twice the heart, love and hospitality.
See you soon and take good care of yourself,
The team of Cycling in Flanders and VISITFLANDERS
