The cyclocross in Hoogstraten has found its definitive home in Merksplas kolonie. It grew from a small B-cross to an international cyclocross. Especially after organising the Belgian championship in 1997 the cross grew steadily after it entered the oldest regularity classification in cyclocross, the Superprestige, in 1998. The historical context of Merksplas colony can only contribute to this.
