On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th of May, Peloton de Paris, the well-know bike shop/café in Mechelen organises their 2-day bikepacking event: Peloton de Paris-Roubaix.
The concept adopted by Peloton de Paris for the Peloton de Paris-Roubaix is wonderfully original. There’s just two mandatory checkpoints, at the start/finish location of Mechelen, and at the halfway point in Roubaix, but with 50 checkpoints in total to choose from along the way, and points awarded for navigating through each, the winner will be the person who accumulates the most points.
Because the event combines many highlights of the Spring Classics in Flanders, this is the perfect opportunity for foreign riders to get to know the “bergs and cobbles” in this region, but also cyclists who know this region well will be surprised by the hidden gems.
‘We wanted to organise an event for the less-experienced bikepacker as an introduction to bikepacking,’ says organiser Vincent but also a challenge for the experienced bikepacker who wants to do as many checkpoints as possible in 36 hours time.’
